Understanding LPP Services in Utah

Accessible, High-Quality Legal Representation.

The Licensed Paralegal Practitioner (LPP) program was created by the Utah Supreme Court to make justice affordable. Learn how an LPP bridges the gap and provides specialized family law representation.

What is a Licensed Paralegal Practitioner?

An LPP is a legal professional who has met rigorous educational, testing, and character requirements set by the Utah State Bar. Licensed to practice law within specific practice areas, LPPs provide direct, high-quality assistance without the high cost of a traditional attorney.

How I Can Help (Authorized Scope)

  • Provide Legal Advice: I explain your legal rights, assess your family law options, and advise you on strategies under Utah law.
  • Document Drafting & Filing: I prepare, review, sign, and file petitions, motions, child support sheets, parent-time agreements, and responses.
  • Negotiation & Advocacy: I represent you in settlement negotiations and advocate directly with the other party or their attorney.
  • Mediation Representation: I stand by your side during domestic mediation sessions, helping you secure agreements that protect your interests.
  • Courtroom Companion: I accompany you to court hearings and sit at counsel table to assist and guide you through the proceeding.

Professional Boundaries

  • Specific Practice Areas: I am authorized to practice strictly in Family Law, Small Claims Debt Collection, and Landlord-Tenant matters (I focus on family law, debt collection, and mediation).
  • No Jury Trials: LPPs are not authorized to represent clients in jury trials (family law matters are resolved by judges, not juries).
  • No Criminal Cases: I cannot represent you in criminal matters or any cases outside my licensed scope.
  • Referrals: If your case becomes extraordinarily complex or falls outside LPP boundaries, I will help you identify and transition to a qualified traditional attorney.

Why Choose an LPP for Your Family Law Case?

Family law issues are deeply personal and stressful. Many individuals attempt to represent themselves because of high attorney fees, only to feel overwhelmed by the complex court rules and documentation. As an LPP, I offer the exact same qualified support for domestic relations as an attorney, but with a transparent, cost-effective structure that keeps you in control.

Required Disclosure: A Licensed Paralegal Practitioner is not an attorney and is not licensed to provide legal services without limitation.
